IndustryPack® Modules are an important part of solutions for Embedded situations. Rugged, small, light, easy to mix and match for your application.
.
IP-Relay16 is an IndustryPack Module with 16 relays. Each relay implements a form C SPDT switch. The relays are hermetically sealed, high shock and vibration resistant, plus fast. Typical switching times of 1 mS.
The design utilizes a Xilinx CPLD to provide the IP interface - IDPROM, Bus interface, registers, and control for the relays. Each relay has a separate bit in the control register to allow for independent operation.
IP-Relay16 can be used to replace the Systran Relay16 design also known as "B-T-MR-RELAY16#-A-0-A2" . The IO definitions are common and minimal SW changes would be required to use IP-Relay16.
The relays are controlled by the host by setting or clearing bits in the Relay Control register. Each bit corresponds to one relay. When set the relay is energized. When cleared the relay is returned to the default state. Back EMF protection is provided on the control side of the relay. The voltage rating on each relay is up to 220 VDC, 250 VAC and 60W or 62.5 VA. The IP IO connector is limited to about 1 A per pin. The traces on the IP are rated for 1.5A. Please check with your IP carrier for maximum current capabilities. Please contact Dynamic Engineering if you need a carrier with power traces.
Each of the Relays provides a SPDT or Form C type switch. By using only the
NO [normally open] side or only the
NC side [normally closed] and
COM [common] you can make Form A and B switches. In addition with cascaded switches most of the other defined switch forms can be created. The hardware manual has details including the cross connections and order to energize or de-energize the relays for proper operation.
Design note: It is the clients responsibility to provide proper EMF protection on the system side of the relays. With improper protection the life span of the relays may be reduced. This is not a warranty item.
There is ample room within the CPLD to add custom state-machines etc. as your needs require.
Please contact Dynamic Engineering with any special requirements.
The IP Module driver can be instantiated multiple times to control multiple cards by the same CPU. IP-Relay16 when coupled with the Dynamic Driver "knows" what slot it is in and which carrier it is installed into. The slot and carrier information is required when using multiple cards in a PCI/PCIe system with dynamic address assignment. A known system configuration can be combined with the slot and carrier information to deterministically access the right card
