cPCI to PMC Compatible Adapter/Carrier with PCI bus expansion, Front View

CompactPCI Non-intelligent PMC Carrier Card with Bus Expansion

cPCIRepeat32 ( cPCI to PMC ) adapter / carrier converter card provides the ability to install up one PMC card into a cPCI slot designed for bus expansion. The J2 connector can be left off for non bus expansion positions. cPCIRepeat32 has one PMC card position mounted to a universal voltage 6U 4HP cPCI card. Suitable for 32 bit data bus width with 33/ 66 MHz bus operation. The 6U card is wired for 32 bit PCI operation. The J2 cPCI connector has been repurposed to provide the expanded PCI bus from the secondary side of the bridge located on the cPCIRepeat32. cPCIRepeat32 can be used with a passive backplane to provide the clocking, interrupt routing, bus requests and grants. The PMC bezel connector is mounted through the cPCI mounting bracket. cPCIRepeat32 is an extended temperature design. -40C to +85C standard. Conformal Coating is an option. For boards requiring cooling, fans are available.

The PCI bus is interconnected to the PMC via 32 bit 66 MHz capable layout. The slower device will determine the interface characteristics.

The user has access to 4 GPIO bits. TP4 is a 4 poistion header with 4.7K pull-ups to 3.3V and GPIO bits connected. Located away from PMC.

The Interrupt request lines are routed from the PMC´s to the cPCI connector.

Voltage monitors check the 5, 3.3, +12, and -12V rails and illuminate LED´s when within specification. The LED´s are visible through the cPCI bezel, and labeled in the silk-screen.

Power is routed from the cPCI to PMC connectors with mini-planes, each of which is rated for more than the maximum PMC draw [10-12A per plane] for the 3.3V, and 5V. VIO, +12, -12 have similar overbuilt planes with lower current capabilities more than matching the PMC connector capabilities. The 3.3V and 5V planes filtered with an LC type to provide isolation from conducted noise. This feature will help with noisy backplanes and power supplies.

cPCIRepeat32 has a low internal power dissipation. The dissipation is a function of the frequency and load from the installed PMC´s. The bridge uses 1W at 66 MHz and less at 33 MHz. The terminations contribute additional dissipation for a total of less than 1.2W at 66 MHz with a 64 bit implementation. Please add your PMC requirements to the 1.2W figure for total power utilized in the slot.

  • Bridge primary PCI IO Voltage is set by the cPCI backplane. Secondary side VIO is set to 3.3V

  • Thermal
  • cPCIRepeat32 is a low power design with minimal heat dissipation for optimal PMC performance. Less than 1.2W used by bridge and terminations for 66 MHz. 64 bit implementation. 33/32 will be lower. The temperature range is -40C to +85C. Fans are available for higher thermal load PMC´s.

  • IO Interface
  • Front Bezel IO supported at cPCI bracket.

  • LED´s
  • +3V, +5V, +12V, -12V and Busmode 1 are displayed on the bezel. Voltage monitor circuits for PMC voltages to check if within proper operating range.

  • JTAG
  • JTAG header connected to PMC slot 0 option. JTAG pin definitions are in the silkscreen. Add -JTAG

    cPCIRepeat32 Benefits

  • Speed
  • The bridge allows for isolation and for differing clock rates on the cPCI backplane and the PMC.

  • Price
  • cPCIRepeat32 represents a cost effective solution to putting extended temperature PMC´s into cPCI environments. Make use of existing PMC designs in cPCI applications without paying for the expense of a new design and layout. Quantity discounts are available.

  • Warranty
  • 1 year warranty

  • Ease of Use
  • cPCIRepeat32 is easy to use. A plug and play interface to the PMC sites and downstream HW.

  • Availability
  • cPCIRepeat32 is a stocked item. Lead time if any is short for prototyping quantities. With our automated assembly system larger orders can be processed in a short time.

  • Size
  • cPCIRepeat32 is a 6U 4HP cPCI board which conforms to the cPCI mechanical specifications. Eliminate mechanical interference issues. cPCIRepeat32 can be used in cPCI bus expansion slots. Please refer to the HW manual for pin definitions etc.

  • PMC Compatibility
  • cPCIRepeat32 is PMC compliant per the IEEE 1386 specification. All Dynamic Engineering PMC Modules are compatible with the cPCIRepeat32.

  • cPCI Compatibility
  • cPCIRepeat32 is cPCI compliant for J1 and with the bus expansion pin definitions contained in the manual for J2.

    cPCIRepeat32 Ordering Options
  • cPCIRepeat32: extended Temperature, cPCIRepeat32 IO through Bezel, PCI expander [J2] installed.

  • -NX:cPCIRepeat32 with J2 not installed for a standard cPCI backplane position

  • -Fan[0/1][HV][R]: Add fans in position 0 and/or 1. Please refer to the photo for Slot 0/ Fan 0 position. Standard orientation is to blow onto PMC. Add "R" to each fan callout to reverse that position. Zero Slot fans have approximately 5 CFM. For an 8 CFM fan add the "-HV" designation. Please note: HV fans are mounted on the rear and will interfere with the next slot.
    Examples:
-Fan01 adds 2 fans in the standard orientation - air toward PMC.
-Fan01R adds a standard orientation fan in position 0, and a reversed fan in position 1.
-Fan0R1R has both installed, and air is pulled [blown toward the card behind cPCIRepeat32.
-Fan0HVR is mounted on the rear, and pulls from the PMC in position 0.
-Fan1HV is mounted on the rear, and blows toward the rear of the card in front of cPCIRepeat32.

  • -ROHS: Switch to ROHS processing instead of standard "leaded"

  • -CC: Add conformal coating to any option
